Mom’s with Toddlers – Skip the Pool and Head to a Splash Pad!

Written by raindeck, in Commercial Splash Pad, Splash Pad

Summer is just around the corner, which means mom’s everywhere are probably already thinking about what they can do to keep their kids cool as the temperatures soar. One thing is for sure…mom’s with toddlers are definitely keeping their eye on open times for local splash pads. In many cases, moms prefer to skip swimming pools altogether and take their younger kids to a splash pad instead. Here’s why:

Splash Pads are Safer Than Pools

Many toddler-aged kids haven’t learned to swim yet, which opens up all kinds of safety issues at a swimming pool. Not only do splash pads eliminate the risk of drowning, but they are usually attended by younger children. As a parent, you don’t have to worry about your child being injured by older kids, teenagers or other adults that may be in the pool. A splash pad allows your little ones to engage with the water features at their own pace without having to swim or be able to reach the bottom of the pool.

Keep Things Simple for Mom

For the most part, letting your toddlers play at a splash pad is much easier for you as a parent than at a swimming pool. Swimming with little ones requires you to be ready to get in the pool with them. You can’t really let them go off on their own very far without encountering danger or some sort. Splash pads are different. Not only can you wear whatever you’re comfortable in, but you can relax on the side of the splash pad while keeping an eye on your child as they frolic with the water features. Splash pads eliminate the need for extra towels and clothes.

More for Your Kids to Do

For adults or older kids who are accomplished swimmers, a swimming pool offers a number of entertaining activities that can last for hours. Not so for toddlers. Even if your young children can swim, chances are they are too little to go very far on their own. They probably can’t use the use diving boards and aren’t allowed in the hot tub. On the other hand, a 3-year old is in complete paradise at a splash pad. Here, everything is designed and set up with them in mind. Parents can relax as they watch their kids go from one spray feature to the next, fully entertained for at least an hour or more.

Have you ever considered building a splash pad in your own backyard? With a Rain Deck Splash Pad Kit, you can create your own convenient toddler fun zone. Click here to learn more. For questions about installation, give us a call at 888-445-7246.

Discover why residential splash pads are gaining popularity

Written by Jennifer Heflin, in Rain Deck Product Installations, Residential Splash Pad

According to Ryan Werlich of Rain Deck, residential splash pads have been steadily gaining popularity for the past few years. “Our splash pads have gotten exposure through television shows such as DIY Yard Crashers,” he says. If you want to save money, don’t have the space for a pool, or are looking for a safe way to stay cool, a splash pad is for you. “A splash pad is fun for kids during the day and at night when the adults are ready to entertain, a splash pad makes a great water feature, plus dogs also love splash pads. They can also serve as a patio area when not in use,” explains Werlich.

If you’re thinking of installing a splash pad in your backyard you need a small level area. “If you have limited space in your backyard, a splash pad is perfect,” says Werlich, “A splash pad can be smaller than 100 sq. ft or as large as you can imagine.” Furthermore, a splash pad can be right next to the side of a building, making them a good option for sideyards. Splash pads may also be installed as pool tie-ins when building a new pool.

Werlich points out that more landscapers are seeking education and gaining knowledge about the installation of splash pads. “The process is similar to installing sprinklers,” he notes. “For residential splash pads, the pump, filter and manifold are usually installed above ground, while the tank is installed below ground, along with the piping and drain(s).” The paved surface of the splash pad is slightly sloped towards a center drain that funnels away excess water.

Splash pads from Rain Deck are available in kits or can be customized for a specific design. Rain Deck also offers above ground features that can be incorporated into their splash pad designs. According to Werlich the most popular features are the Rainy Palm Tree, Water Umbrella and Fire Hydrant.

3 DIY Projects to Spruce Up Your Backyard

Written by Jennifer Heflin, in Rain Deck Product Installations, Residential Splash Pad

Do you love spending time in your backyard with friends and family? Wouldn’t it be nice to add something new to the look and feel of your backyard to impress your friends and keep your family entertained?

When it comes to the backyard, it’s all about atmosphere and comfort. Here are 3 Do-It-Yourself projects that can help turn your backyard into the coolest spot in the neighborhood for hanging out:

1. Outdoor Fire Pit

There’s nothing like gathering around an open fire on a chilly night to roast marshmallows or just visit with friends. Whether you’re looking to recreate the feel of a campfire or you want something more decorative, there are several DIY outdoor fire pit options available. Fire pits range from the very basic wood burning steel bowls to more elaborate projects that include built in seating and a gas line for a cleaner fire. Basic kits and instructions can be found at your local home-improvement store or you might consult a landscape designer/installer for bigger projects.

2. Update Your Patio

Most homes are built with at least a very small and simple back patio. But to truly enjoy your backyard and build a more inviting atmosphere, consider expanding or upgrading your patio. This could include installing new flooring such as cobblestone or tile. You might also want to partially enclose your patio for privacy and to add ambience to your backyard. Adding comfortable patio furniture and maybe even a built in bar for entertaining at parties are some nice finishing touches to make your patio really stand out and become the perfect place to kick back and relax.

3. Splash Pad

Most people aren’t aware that they can build their own splash pad in their own backyard. No more fighting the crowds at public splash pads – with a DIY splash pad kit from Rain Deck and a little bit of work, you’ll soon have the coolest backyard in the neighborhood. Kids love playing on a splash pad because it keeps them nice and cool, especially during those hot summer months. Parents love it because they don’t have to worry about their little ones like they would at a pool. Splash pads continue to become more and more popular, especially in residential settings.

Product Spotlight: Illusion Powder Coating

Written by brett619, in Commercial Splash Pad, Splash Pad

Rain Deck uses beautiful, durable Prismatic powder coating on our stainless steel above ground features. Beyond the seventeen brilliant colors we carry, we also offer custom design patterns, metallics and air brushing.

One such custom offering is the Illusion pearl process. Illusion is a line of colors that transforms into brilliant candy finishes when the clear top coat is added. Illusion colors only activate when this special top coat has been applied. This two coat powder coating combines a base coat and top coat to achieve unique colors that otherwise wouldn’t be possible in a single coat application.

Illusion powder coated colors are intense, rich colors with an almost three dimensional depth to them – it’s as if you can look into the color. They feature a shimmering base with a glossy clear top coat that really makes the color pop. You really have to see them in person to appreciate their beauty – pictures don’t do them justice.

Just a few of the many Illusion colors available, and our Dumping Bucket 3 in Illusion Lime.
